This is her.

And she’s not even in mourning in this image, she’s wearing a shawl and veil and ribbons just because.

So she always wore these gauzy outfits making her look like some ethereal ghost, her clique of other spooky ladies followed her around town and they held seances and read their own spooky poetry together.
This woman was Victorian Goth-Goth. She was exemplifying the Victorian Goth style in the actual Victorian era, some accounts even say she wore feathers and beads and was more or less the Stevie Nicks of her day. She kept a mini-coffin that opened and shut like a locket around her neck at all times and never told anyone why.
She also dated Edgar Allan Poe, who was a couple years younger than her, more or less as a token spooky boyfriend to go with her spooky life style.
So yes. Sarah Helen Whitman is more goth than all of us.

The existence of numerous horned skulls is one of the most controversial artifacts in existence, and not one that modern science can easily explain. The skull shown was discovered in France. Analysis and X-ray examination of the skull demonstrated that the horns were genuinely part of the skull and not a forgery. It is only one of hundreds found worldwide and is on display at the London Museum.
Medieval “Vampire” Skull
In a mass grave dating to the 1500s on the Venetian island of Lazzaretto Nuovo, this skull of a woman was found with a brick shoved in its mouth. Researchers think gravediggers came upon the skeleton and feared she was a vampire. They believe gravediggers shoved a rock into her skull to prevent her from chewing through her shroud and infecting others with the plague. (Source)
Although this skull shows four separate holes made by the ancient surgical process of trepanation, they had clearly begun to heal. This suggests that although highly dangerous, the procedure was by no means fatal. Also known as trephination, or trepanning, the process of making a hole through the skull to the surface of the brain might be carried out to treat a range of medical conditions or for more mystical reasons. The skull was excavated from a tomb in Jericho (map), in January 1958.
Painted Human Skull
Bavaria , Germany, 19th century
The tradition of skull painting began in 1790, when members of the deceased’s family started painting flowers and crowns of flowers because, they couldn’t decorate the grave with flowers.
Some of the skulls also have the name of the deceased painted on them, the dates of birth and death and some kind of symbol depicting the cause of death.
